Ronnie Turner, the second of Tina Turner’s four children, has died. He was 62. Ronnie’s wife, French singer Afida Turner, announced his death Friday in an Instagram post that referred to him as her “best friend.” “My God Ronnie Turner is a true angel Hughes soul is very spiritual my husband my best friend my baby,” she wrote in the caption, referring to herself as “your nurse.”
“I finally did the best I could to save you this time,” she said. “Loving you for 17 years it’s too bad I’m so mad it’s a tragedy.”
Afida ended the post by saying that Ronnie is now “with your brother Craig and your father Ike Turner and Alain,” telling her late husband to “rest in heaven.” Craig died by suicide in 2018. Ike died in 2007 and Alain, Ronnie’s aunt and Tina’s sister, died in 2010.
83-year-old Tina also paid tribute to her late son on Friday. “Ronnie, you left this world too soon. I close my eyes and think of you with sadness, my dear son,” he wrote. The accompanying photo is a black-and-white shot of himself with his eyes closed, credited to Alberto Venzago.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to Digital that an ambulance was at Ronnie’s home investigating the death. Police responded to a 911 call Thursday about a man not breathing at Ronnie’s residence, TMZ first reported. Ronnie reportedly stopped breathing while the caller was on the phone.
Paramedics performed CPR upon arrival, but Ronnie was pronounced dead at the scene, law enforcement sources told the outlet.
Ronnie, full name Ronnie Raynell Turner, was the youngest of four children of Tina Turner’s ex-husband and former associate Ike Turner. The couple welcomed Ronnie on October 27, 1960. Born into a musical family, Ronnie inherited his parents’ talents and played bass in his parents’ band, Manufactured Funk, along with songwriter and musician Patrick Moten. He married French singer Afida in 2007.
Although Ronnie’s cause of death is currently unclear, he had a history of health problems throughout the years, including cancer. Turner’s older son Craig, whom they adopted after they married, died by suicide in 2018.
