2023 Lexus RX First Look: A Luxury Crossover Reset

Finally, When the original Lexus RX landed in 1998, it was revolutionary, laying out the framework for what we know today as a luxury crossover. This Car RX Looked SUV while delivering a car-like enough driving experience to convince masses of luxury customers that it, not archaic, body-on-frame behemoths, was the way forward.

As usably, today, many trucky, gargantuan SUVs live on—look at the Cadillac Escalade, or even Lexus’s own LX600 and GX models—but the RX shoved them to the larger fringes of the market. Today, nearly every compact and midsize luxury SUV follows the RX’s template. The all-new 2023 Lexus RX might not be groundbreaking in that kind of generational, buyer-preference-shifting way, but it represents the model’s biggest shakeup since Y2K.

2023 Lexus RX Price:

Price is a very big issue for buying the Car. We think the 2023 RX’s base price will rise somewhat compared with the outgoing RX350’s $46,995 starting cost. The RX350h hybrid is likely to start somewhere around $50,000, while the RX450h+ is likely to approach $60,000. There’s no precedent for the RX500h F Sport Performance model, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see that model reach into the $70,000 range. Lexus says the new RX will go on sale at the end of this year.

2023 Lexus RX Performance:

Lexus builds the 2023 RX on its new GA-K platform, shared with the smaller NX. Highlights include a lower center of gravity, greater structural rigidity, and lighter weight resulting in a near 200-pound loss of mass for the new RX. All three platform characteristics promise to improve the RX’s ride and handling qualities in accordance with the automaker’s Lexus Driving Signature dynamic satisfaction targets.

2023 Lexus RX Price

If you want a Lexus RX with a V6 engine, you should buy a remaining fourth-generation model now. That’s because the new 2023 Lexus RX 350 has a turbocharged 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine making 275 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. It pairs with an 8-speed automatic transmission and either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (AWD). Lexus estimates the RX 350 will return 24 mpg in combined city/highway driving and accelerate to 60 mph in as few as 7.2 seconds.

For greater fuel efficiency, the 2023 Lexus RX 350h awaits with a gas-electric hybrid powertrain based on a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. Total system output measures 246 hp and 233 pound-feet of torque, and a continuously variable transmission powers all four wheels. Lexus says the RX 350h will get 33 mpg in combined driving and scoot to 60 mph in 7.4 seconds.

The 2023 Lexus RX 450h+ is a plug-in hybrid. Lexus hasn’t provided any specifications for this powertrain, saying “Details for the U.S. market will be shared at a later time.” This suggests that it will not employ the same setup used in the smaller NX 450h+. We’ll see. Stay tuned.
